The label

Design is really important to us so we didn’t want to just churn out the same thing year after year. Every Heretic’s vintage has a different set of names and labels. After all, the weather is different every year so why shouldn’t the labels be?

We support the young creatives of the world so we are already on the lookout for our next vintage. You need to be under 25 and can be anything from an illustrator to a photographer to a designer. The only requirements are that your design fits the label size and can only be black, white and yellow. It’s simple but not easy.

“I love images that tell stories. I love moments. I suppose a lot of my work shows realistic and sensitive scenes of everyday life, wherever I am in the world at the time.

I am never without my Leica, my iPhone and a lot of bravado. You need to be constantly looking for opportunities. You need to be quick. You need to be able to see a situation differently. You need to seek out the unusual in the usual and the spontaneous moments in the seemingly mundane. But you need to be respectful of your subject too. If you show respect to what they’re doing, I usually find they’re happy for me to shoot them.

I love the candidness of shooting in black and white. I love the way the images combine an almost a documentary style with a clear emotion. I love shooting in colour too of course but it seems my most honest and enduring images always seem to be in black and white.”

Eve

This was taken in an abandoned building my friend and I discovered exploring Krabi, Thailand. The light was just right with this one. Lots of incredible shadows and straight lines. I love the fact that half the image is in the shade and she becomes almost a silhouette.

Bike

This again was in Hanoi. It’s a crazy place with millions of bikes everywhere you look. This guy cycled past me and, as he noticed my camera, give me a little wave as he sped past. Top fella.

Hands

Wat Rong Khun is an incredible temple in Chang Rai in Thailand. The out reached hand sculptures symbolise unrestrained desires. Bit weird for a temple but made for some amazing images…

Cut

I woke up very early one morning and set out with my camera before Hanoi got busy. This was taken about 5.30am and this guy was out sharpening a knife on a block on the side of the road. I was watching him for a bit and then pointed to my camera and asked if it was OK, he nodded and just got on with what he was doing. And so did I.

Smoke

This was taken in a Ao Nang. My taxi driver who picked me up already had a smoke on the go, I had my camera out taking pictures of the passing scenery and half way through I turned and he offered it to me so I grabbed the shot.

Alley

I turned a corner while walking down a street in Hanoi and saw this. There seemed to be so many things to see in the scene - buildings hanging over each other, plants growing haphazardly, lots of things stacked up on the side of the path. It just looked really busy and really interesting.

Blowhorn

This was taken from the back of a TukTuk in Jaipur in Rajasthan. I loved the hand painted type on the truck and was about to take a shot when this guy just popped up from nowhere. And he looked like a dude.

Storm

This shot was taken from a hotel balcony in Bangkok. It was literally just raining on that bit in the middle. It was coming our way but at the time everything else was dry. I love the buildings and the hole in the sky where the rain was pouring down from. Crazy…
